Maitreya: “You have graciously described the planetary incarnations, O Sage. Please now describe their personalities and traits.
Parasara: “Hey Brahmin, hear this story about how the celestial bodies are arranged.” Some of the numerous bright objects seen in the sky are stars, whereas others are planets (i.e., Grahas). The Nakshatras, or asterisms, are those that are motionless.
Notes: There are many stars in the firmaments, of which we may identify 27 stars and 7 planets for astrological reasons. Despite being acknowledged as planets or astrological markers, Rahu and Ketu have a mysterious past. These two are the moon’s nodes, and they are precisely 1 80 degrees apart. As the Moon moves from a northern latitude to a southern latitude and vice versa, their locations are created.

The celestial bodies that travel across the zodiac’s Nakshatras and asterisms are known as planets, or Grahas. There are twenty-seven asterisms in the mentioned zodiac, starting with Aswini. The same region is divided into 12 equal sections, representing the 12 Rasis (or signs), starting with Aries. The planets’ names start with the Sun. Lagna, also referred to as the ascendant, is the rising sign. The positive and negative impacts of the native are inferred from the ascendant and the planets’ joining and separation from one another.
The planets go through starry mansions, or Nakshatras, as they traverse through the zodiac. The 27 Nakshatras have the following names:
An extremely significant point in the horoscope is the ascendant. On the latitude of birth, it is the sign that rises in the east. The earth rotates on its own axis at a rate of motion that causes every degree of the zodiac to appear to be rising. appears to rise on the horizon to the east. About two hours are needed for a sign to cross the horizon, meaning that each degree rises in four minutes. But in reality, this length depends on the latitude in question.
Sun | 1° |
Moon | 13-15° |
Mars | 30-45° |
Mercury | 65-100° |
Venus | 62-82° |
Jupiter | 5-15° |
Saturn | 2° |
Node | 3° |
While I tell you about the effects of planets and signs, you can understand the details (of an astronomical nature) of stars by general rules.
According to Drikganita, the planet positions for a specific period of time were taken. Additionally, the ascendant at birth should be known to be 1 with the aid of Rasi durations that apply to the respective locations. I will now tell you about the planets’ dispositions, descriptions, and castes.
PLANET NAMES: The Sun, the Moon, and the nine planets are named after respective celestial bodies. Rahu, Ketu, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and Mercury. Notes: The planets are referred to by different names in the Sanskrit astrological literature. For more details on this, please refer to Chapter 2 of my English translation of Horasara.
BENEFICS AMD MALEFICS: Of them, the others are beneficent, but the Sun, Saturn, Mars, decreasing Moon, Rahu, and Ketu (the ascending and descending nodes of the Moon) are maleficent. But if Mercury associates with a malefic, he becomes a malefic. Notes: The sage expresses the opinion that a decreasing moon and an increasing moon are, respectively, maleficent and beneficent. However, a few proponents and observers maintain the following opinion:
The Moon has medium strength when she is ahead of the Sun but still within 120°. She is extremely fortunate between 120° and 240°; From 240° to 0°, her strength is absent. this is Yavanas’ perspective. This viewpoint, however, is dependent on the strength of the Moon; a waxing Moon (Sukla Paksha, or bright half Moon) is a beneficent, and a waning Moon (Krishna Paksha, or dark half Moon) is a maleficent. The Moon turns benefic when it is aspected by or conjunct a benefic, even when it is waning. Regarding Mercury, Pararasara has made it very clear that he will turn into a malefic if he associates with malefic. If When Mercury and the waning Moon are together, both are favorable.
Planetary Governance: Everything revolves around the Sun. The mind is the moon. Mars represents one’s strength. Mercury is a communicator. Jupiter, however, bestows happiness and knowledge. Venus is the ruler of semen (potency), and Saturn represents sorrow. Notes: The strength of the planet in question will determine how beneficial the aforementioned indications are. A strong Sun will result in a mature soul and abundant spiritual advancement; a well-disposed Jupiter will facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and overall happiness. If Saturn is lacking in strength, grief won’t exist.
PLANETARY CABINET: Mars is the commander of the army, and the Sun and Moon are of royal status. Mercury is Princeapparent. Venus and Jupiter are the ministerial planets. Saturn is an obedient planet. Ketu and Rahu make up the planetary army
PLANETARY COMPLEXIONS: The Sun is crimson in color. The Moon has turned tawny. Mercury is the color of green grass, while Mars, who is not very tall, is blood-red. Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn are tawny, variegated, and dark, respectively.
